Kinsale Energy has made a commitment to continue to offer a storage service to the Irish gas market. As well as this commitment, we hope to expand the service in the coming years to offer an even more flexible delivery capacity that will help meet national gas requirements, and supply customers with additional gas during periods of high demand.

Storage Expansion

Kinsale Energy has operated off the South coast of Ireland for over 30 years, bringing natural gas to its onshore facility at Inch.

The Southwest Kinsale gasfield is already used for gas storage and, as the Ballycotton gas reservoir begins to reach the end of its economic life, Kinsale Energy has undertaken a number of studies to investigate expansion options for gas storage.

Current focus is on expanding the capacity of the SW Kinsale field by installing additional offshore facilities and possibly drilling a new well; this would significantly increase the capacity of Ireland’s only gas storage facility.
